Empowering energy communities: collective self-consumption and local flexibility with the RECreation platform
Addressing the Future of Local Energy Markets
Energy flexibility is not just a buzzword—it’s the cornerstone of tomorrow’s sustainable and resilient energy systems. As part of the BeFlexible project, we are pleased to announce a dedicated workshop—part of its Capacity Building Programme (CBP)—on Managing Collective Self-Consumption and Local Flexibility with the RECreation Platform, organized by Comillas Pontifical University (Universidad Pontificia Comillas) in Madrid, in collaboration with INESC TEC. Led by José Villar (INESC TEC), the session will share hands-on experiences and practical tools for collective self-consumption, local energy markets and community participation in flexibility markets.
This free virtual workshop is tailored for energy professionals across the energy ecosystem: engineers, researchers, academics, policymakers, regulators, utilities, DSOs, project managers, EU-funded project stakeholders, REC members, community promoters and technology developers.
The session, will be held on Tuesday, June 18, 2025 at 15:00 (GMT+2) via Microsoft Teams. Registration is open and free to all stakeholders through the following link:
What to expect from the workshop?

Understanding sharing mechanisms, allocation coefficients and governance within Renewable Energy Communities (RECs). - Structure and operation of RECs
Roles, responsibilities and workflows that empower communities to manage their own generation and consumption. - Local energy markets
Pricing mechanisms, transaction management and settlement processes that underpin local flexibility. - Flexibility-Market participation
How RECreation enables RECs to bid into and settle in flexibility markets for enhanced operational and economic performance. - Live demonstration
An illustrative walkthrough of RECreation’s key functionalities and real-world applications.
How to join the workshop?
Participation is free and open to all, but registration is required to receive the Teams link and joining instructions.
