CINEA highlights BeFlexible as a Horizon Europe success story
The BeFlexible project had the honour of featuring a special video message from Paloma Aba Garrote, Director of the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA), delivered during the project’s final event.
In her address, the Director of CINEA congratulated the consortium on its work and its contribution to advancing energy flexibility in Europe, underlining the importance of initiatives like BeFlexible in making the impact of EU-funded innovation tangible. She also highlighted how such projects strengthen Europe’s energy transition and showcase the value of collaborative research and innovation across Member States.
Her message recognises BeFlexible as a success story under the Horizon Europe programme, one that has translated pilot experiences into concrete results with a direct impact on consumers, helping to better understand their behaviour and place them at the centre of the energy system.
Aba Garrote’s remarks also look ahead to the next EU framework programme, emphasising the need to continue supporting ambitious, collaborative projects capable of delivering real impact. In this context, CINEA’s recognition further reinforces the relevance of BeFlexible’s outcomes and their strong alignment with European policy priorities.
“At CINEA, we find very interesting BeFlexible’s proposals fot he European Comission to simplify the regulations relating to the flexibility and harmonization of the electric system”, Paloma Aba Garrote

From results to future impact
The message was shared during the BeFlexible final event, held at Universidad Pontificia Comillas in Madrid, where project partners and key stakeholders gathered to present results, exchange insights and reflect on the future of energy flexibility in Europe. As highlighted during the event, BeFlexible has demonstrated that flexibility is not just a theoretical concept but a practical and scalable solution for the European energy system. The project’s large-scale pilots—implemented across several countries, including Spain, Italy, Sweden and France—have shown how flexibility can support grid management, facilitate renewable integration and foster more active consumer participation.
Beyond the technical achievements, BeFlexible has also contributed to shaping the future of the energy system through its regulatory roadmap, which proposes a progressive approach towards more adaptive and efficient frameworks for electricity distribution.
The project highlights the central role of consumers in unlocking flexibility, showing that participation depends not only on economic incentives but also on trust, simplicity and tailored engagement strategies.
