BeFlexible at Enlit 2025: advancing smart energy flexibility alongside fellow EU projects
BeFlexible is excited to announce its participation in Enlit Europe 2025, the landmark event bringing together the entire energy community to shape Europe’s sustainable and digital energy future. This year’s edition will take place from 18 to 20 November in Bilbao (Spain), gathering industry leaders, innovators, policymakers, and research projects to exchange ideas and explore new pathways for the energy transition.
Building on previous years enriching experiences, BeFlexible will once again showcase its innovative approach to unlocking energy flexibility across Europe. Through its pilots in Spain, France, Italy, and Sweden, the project is demonstrating how digital tools, cooperative market models, and citizen engagement can make energy systems more efficient, resilient, and inclusive. Indeed, this year’s participation is especially meaningful, as Enlit 2025 marks the project’s final appearance at the event before its completion, a special opportunity to share key achievements and lessons learned with the wider energy community.
At this new edition, BeFlexible will be present as part of the Energy Nexus Cluster, a joint initiative that brings together several EU-funded projects dedicated to advancing smart, flexible, and people-centred energy systems.
The session hosted by the BeFlexible, STREAM, and ENFLATE projects at ENLIT 2024.
Explore energy flexibility at our Enlit 2025 session
WHEN: November 18th, 14:00 – 15:30.
WHERE: EU Projects Zone Hub – Theatre 2 (Hall 5).
How can we make energy flexibility work for everyone across sectors, users, and markets? As the energy transition accelerates, demand-side flexibility becomes a cornerstone for balancing renewable generation, engaging consumers, and enhancing grid efficiency. Yet its real-world uptake depends on how users are engaged, how services are designed, and how regulation supports them.
In the session “A holistic view of energy flexibility: From systems and services to people,” the BeFlexible, ENFLATE, and RESONANCE projects will explore how to scale demand-side flexibility through user engagement, regulation, and practical tools that make participation easier for all.
The BeFlexible project will be represented by Fernando David Martín Utrilla, DSO role responsible in Spain at i-DE (Iberdrola group) and project coordinator, and José Pablo Chaves Ávila, Deputy Director for Research Development at the University of Comillas.
The discussion will focus on bridging the gap between flexibility potential and real-world adoption, highlighting approaches that involve consumers, aggregators, local actors, and service providers. The three projects will discuss how collaboration and policy alignment at EU and national levels can help unlock flexibility at scale. Audience participation in the interactive final debate will help reflect on practical ways to increase citizen engagement, reduce complexity, and bring flexible solutions to market.
Extending the conversation: BeFlexible in other Enlit sessions
In addition to the joint activities within the Energy Nexus Cluster, BeFlexible will also contribute to several other sessions across the Enlit 2025 programme, showcasing the project’s expertise in flexibility, digitalisation, and regulatory innovation.
- Roundtable on flexibility. Our project coordinator will also participate in a specific roundtable focused on flexibility, sharing insights from the project’s work on cooperation between system operators and market development. Date: 19th November. Location: EU Projects Hub, EU Competitiveness & the Green Deal.
- Session: “BRIDGE-ing Innovation: Digitalisation, Flexibility and Market Uptake for a Sustainable Energy Future”. This session will present the latest updates from theBRIDGE Working Groups. José Pablo Chaves will represent BeFlexible, contributing to discussions on digitalisation, flexibility, and market uptake. Date: 18 November, 10:00–11:30 CET. Location: EU Projects Zone, Theatre 1 (Hall 5).
- Session: “ETIP SNET Regional Workshop – Unleashing Flexibility: Buildings and Industry as Active Grid Players”. In addition, José Pablo Chaves and José Villar (INESC TEC) will participate in this workshop, which will focus on how buildings and industry can play an active role in providing flexibility and supporting grid stability. Date: 20 November, 10:00–13:00 CET. Location: EU Projects Zone Hub, Theatre 3 (Hall 5).
Meet us at the Energy Nexus Cluster stand
WHEN: November 18th to 20th.
WHERE: EU Projects Zone.
Throughout the event, you will find BeFlexible showcased at the Energy Nexus Cluster stand, alongside other pioneering projects working on flexibility and digital energy systems. Visit us to discover how we are co-creating smarter, more resilient, and more sustainable energy systems, and to exchange ideas on the future of flexibility in Europe.
The Energy Nexus Cluster brings together 10 Horizon Europe projects working towards a shared goal: advancing energy system flexibility and integration across Europe. By fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange, the cluster bridges the technical, social, and policy dimensions of the energy transition, accelerating innovation and supporting a flexible, consumer-driven energy future.
The projects currently part of the cluster are: ENFLATE, RESONANCE, STREAM, GLocalFlex, GEOFLEXHEAT, ELEXIA, REFLEX, SENERGY NETS, INDEPENDENT and BeFlexible. Together, they form an ecosystem where knowledge and innovation converge to reshape Europe’s energy landscape and drive the clean energy transition forward.
The day before the start of Enlit, the Energy Nexus Cluster will hold an internal workshop, making the most of this opportunity to reunite in person, share progress and insights, and align on upcoming activities.
Through its participation in Enlit 2025, BeFlexible continues to reinforce cooperation with fellow EU projects, industry stakeholders, and energy communities. Together, we are driving innovation that empowers consumers, enhances grid flexibility, and accelerates the clean energy transition!
