On the road to impact: BeFlexible’s Malmö meeting sets the course ahead
On 12–13 November 2025, the BeFlexible consortium gathered in Malmö (Sweden) for its fourth General Assembly, hosted by E.ON. The meeting marked an important milestone as the project faces its final year, with all pilot activities implemented and partners now focusing on results, lessons learned, and the path towards long-term impact.
Over two intensive days, representatives from the entire consortium came together to review progress, discuss key findings, and set priorities for the remaining months of the project. The atmosphere combined technical depth with collaborative energy, reflecting BeFlexible’s core objective: to enable an integrated, flexible, and consumer-centric energy system across Europe.
From platforms to pilots: advancing flexibility across Europe
The first day of discussions centred on the technical heart of the project, highlighting the progress achieved across BeFlexible’s demonstration sites and digital platforms. Partners shared updates on the integration of services and tools within a common ecosystem, designed to support energy flexibility across different markets and use cases.
The consortium reviewed the outcomes from the project’s European pilots, each addressing specific regional needs and testing innovative flexibility solutions at scale. These sessions offered an opportunity to exchange insights on what worked, what challenges remain, and how local results can inform broader European strategies. BeFlexible’s northern, southern-mid, and south-western demos provided valuable data on the role of digitalisation, consumer participation, and coordination among market actors. The presentations showed how diverse contexts —from industrial flexibility to residential energy management— contribute to a shared vision of an adaptable, secure, and efficient energy system.
Turning knowledge into impact
The second day of the assembly focused on maximising project impact and ensuring BeFlexible’s results reach beyond the research phase. Discussions revolved around exploitation strategies, market uptake, and the project’s business models, aiming to transform technical achievements into concrete, long-term benefits for Europe’s energy transition.
A collaborative workshop invited all partners to work together on identifying opportunities for replication and the next steps for the technologies and platforms developed within the project. The session fostered open dialogue on how to sustain collaboration after the project’s end. An essential step towards ensuring that BeFlexible’s innovations continue to generate value for consumers, utilities, and the overall energy ecosystem.
Strengthening collaboration and looking ahead
Beyond the technical sessions, the General Assembly was also a space for networking and strategic alignment. Informal exchanges during breaks and the consortium dinner contributed to strengthening relationships among partners and aligning perspectives for the project’s final stretch.
The gathering in Malmö also served to define joint actions for the coming months and prepare one of the most immediate milestones for the consortium: the upcoming review meeting with the European Commission, which will take place in November. The sessions in Malmö provided an opportunity to align and exchange feedback across all work areas before this key review. Over the past months, partners have worked closely to consolidate the results achieved, and the meeting allowed everyone to ensure a shared understanding and a coherent presentation of BeFlexible’s progress.
At the same time, partners discussed the remaining activities of the project — from communication and dissemination efforts to clustering with other EU initiatives and the planning of BeFlexible’s final event in 2026.
The collaborative spirit that has guided BeFlexible since its launch was clearly visible, with partners reaffirming their shared commitment to advancing flexibility as a key enabler of Europe’s decarbonised and digital energy future.
From Malmö to Bilbao, and beyond
Although the BeFlexible’s General Assembly marked one of the last opportunities to meet in person — the project end is foreseen for August 2026 —, collaboration continues. The outcomes of the Malmö meeting will feed into the project’s final phase, where partners will work together to consolidate results, strengthen exploitation pathways, and communicate BeFlexible’s research to a wider audience.
In addition, many of the consortium members will soon reunite at Enlit Europe 2025 in Bilbao, where BeFlexible will take part in several activities — including a stand a several sessions — showcasing its progress and contribution to the European energy transition.
The road ahead is exciting, and BeFlexible is ready to keep turning innovation into impact! Stay tuned for more updates as BeFlexible continues advancing Europe’s journey toward greater energy flexibility.
